The project 1 ha. Una Historia project was born from the desire to explore in depth the singularities of Otazu’s terroir. To this end, a line of single-varietal wines from a specific hectare and plot within the vineyard has been conceived, in which each variety finds the perfect balance to give the best of itself. These wines allow us to enjoy each variety in a different way through limited editions of 800 bottles. A permanent challenge, which pushes us every year to interpret the vagaries of the climate with the illusion of bottling the best expression of each variety within our magnificent terroir. Thus, 1 ha, Una Historia will have single varietal wines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, Berués and Chardonnay.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY JORDI BERNARDO

Each type of grape is related to a character, each character has been portrayed, and each image represents a story associated with Otazu. In the words of the artist, Jordi Bernadó:

“Seeing is inventing. These images are born from the desire to get closer to the genius of the place and the soul of each of the hosts-inspirers of him. The sky, the earth, the vineyards, the personal stories, the earth waiting for new vineyards, the work, the effort, the nostalgia, the illusion, the creativity, the inspiration, the new challenges, the passion, the future, the present. I would like all of this and more to be in these portraits. Photography approaches reality with apparent ease. That is “precisely” its problem: it seems easy and, in fact, we think we see an end when, in reality, it is rather a beginning.

A beginning not by the person who took the photo but by the person who observes it. The 1 Ha. Una Historia project is an invitation to explore a geography of the past, but also an evocation of the future. It is definitely a celebration of the present. Otazu’s soul. A reminder that seeing is always inventing.”

GARNACHA

1 Ha. Una Historia Garnacha (D.O. Navarra), a wine made from 100% Garnacha grapes. After a manual harvest of this hectare of Garnacha on the gravel and clay soils of the Mercedes vineyard -located in Corella, Navarra- the grapes are fermented in concrete tanks, with prefermentative cryomaceration for 5 days at 8°C.
