October, 2022. Bodega Otazu will celebrate its annual harvest festival by joining a charitable cause, helping children with cancer. On August 31, for the third consecutive year, Otazu’s facilities will host a charity event linked to the most important festivity of a winery, its grape harvest. The funds raised during the Harvest for a Smile day will be donated to two associations that help children with cancer in Navarra.
One of them, Adano, was created by Dr. Javier Molina Garicano, head of the pediatric onco-hematology service at the Virgen del Camino Hospital in Pamplona, to be the recognized spokesperson for the needs and interests of children diagnosed with cancer and their families. For its part, Niños contra el Cáncer is a solidarity program of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra that promotes research into childhood cancer and financially helps children with cancer who need treatments that are not available at their medical centers of reference.
The event will start at 12:30 noon and will feature different entertainment activities around the wine festival. For such a special occasion, Bodega Otazu has designed a unique program. Attendees will be able to live the experience of the grape treading in first person, take a horse-drawn carriage tour, visit the inside of the winery, taste Otazu wines, enjoy live music by a saxophonist during the aperitif with a ham cutter and cheese station, discover the pairing of oysters with Chardonnay, among other activities.
At lunch, guests will taste an exquisite menu with wine as the common thread while enjoying a magic show. The menu will feature Wanton pasta mille-feuille with Cantabrian lobster, low-temperature sirloin steak with Robuchon cream and Altar reduction, and nougat fluid cake with whipped cream and Veracruz vanilla ice cream. The evening will be enlivened with a gin tasting and a premium whiskey tasting. From 6:30 pm there will be live music by the group “Son de Ases” and as a finale there will be a DJ set for dinner.
You can attend individually collaborating with a donation of 200 € per person. It has also closed a price per table of € 2,000 for companies (tables of up to 12 diners). The account number for those who want to collaborate is ES53 2100 5153 97 0200068507. The funds raised will go entirely to the chosen associations.
Bodega Otazu’s grape harvest will begin in early September with the harvest of grapes for the production of sparkling wines. 2019 has been a year with a large number of sunny days, moderate temperatures and low rainfall in both spring and summer. The cold nights in August have caused a slight delay in veraison, which will favor a slow and balanced ripening of the different varieties throughout September and October. A high quality vintage is expected in line with the 2016 and 2018 vintages.
